Route overview

Eight days for certified divers, covering the Togean reefs from east to west: Puah and Malenge, the coral gardens of Kadidiri, two days of reefs at Una Una, and Bomba.

Expect 10 to 14 dives: two on the first day at sea and two or three a day after that, with night dives on request. Jellyfish Lake, the volcano hike and beach stops are part of the route too.

Itinerary

01 Day 1

Arrival in Luwuk

Luwuk

Arrival at Luwuk Airport and a transfer to the Estrella Hotel, with views over Luwuk Bay. Time to rest by the pool or book a massage at the spa.

Divers go through their plans on the first day, so that dives can be booked with the dive centres in the islands.

02 Day 2

First dives at Puah and Malenge

Puah · Malenge · Walea Kodi · dives possible: 2

A drive to Pagimana harbour, then a day on the water built around diving. The first dives are in the clear water around Puah and Malenge, over colourful reefs full of fish, with snorkelling stops in between.

In the afternoon, secluded beaches and another dive around Walea Kodi. The night is on a private beach on Malenge that is good for a night dive.

03 Day 3

The coral gardens of Kadidiri

Kadidiri · Jellyfish Lake · dives possible: 2–3

A morning dive in the coral gardens of Kadidiri. In the afternoon, a snorkel in Jellyfish Lake, then another dive or snorkel off small beaches nearby.

The night is at Kadidiri Paradise, overlooking the reef.

04 Day 4

Dives and the volcano

Una Una · dives possible: 2–3

A crossing to Una Una for a morning of dives on reefs rich in coral and tropical fish.

In the afternoon, a hike towards the active volcano. A night dive can be arranged.

05 Day 5

The reefs of Una Una

Una Una · dives possible: 2–3

A morning dive on Una Una’s reefs. Certified divers can explore remote sites or join guided dives to unusual coral formations and wrecks.

The afternoon is for the beach or quieter spots for snorkelling or diving. The last evening ends with a dinner of local food.

06 Day 6

On to Bomba

Bomba · dives possible: 2–3

A sail to Bomba along quiet coasts, stopping at small beaches and villages on the way.

A bungalow on a private beach with sunset views at Poya Lisa. Dive, snorkel or paddleboard in the afternoon.

07 Day 7

Mangroves and Piala Waterfall

Pagimana · Piala

A slow sail back to Pagimana past mangroves, quiet villages and the last views of the islands, then a drive to Luwuk with a stop at Piala Waterfall.

08 Day 8

Departure

Luwuk

A last morning in Luwuk, a small coastal town in the Banggai region of Central Sulawesi, then the transfer to Luwuk Airport for the flight to Makassar.

Joining an organised trip

This route follows the Crystal Waters Dive Escape, a scheduled trip by Togean Safari Cruise on its wooden phinisi Toki Toki, with up to seven guests and nights ashore. It costs €1,248 per person, with accommodation, three meals a day on the islands, airport and land transfers, drinking water, coffee and tea on board, and snorkelling gear and paddleboards included; flights, diving, soft drinks and alcohol, snacks, mobile data and tips for the crew are extra.
